The Blae and Black

Materials:
Hook:
D/E sizes 12 or 16
Silk: Black
Tail: Golden Pheasant Tippets
Rib: Oval Silver Tinsel
Body: Black Wool
Hackle: Black Hen
Wings: Medium Starling or Grey Duck
Method:
- Tie in at the bend to form a tail four or five Golden Pheasant tippets followed by the oval tinsel.
- The body material is then tied in and although my preference is for black wool, floss silk or seal’s fur my be used as an alternative. The body should be dressed thicker towards the shoulder and this is then ribbed with the tinsel.
- The hackle of soft black hen (2 or 3 turns) is then tied in behind the eye.
- Finally the wings of medium starling are tied in on top of the hackle and sloping back. A small black cock hackle may be utilised in place of a hen hackle on very tiny patterns as this is easier to tie.
