Materials:

Hook: DE sizes 12 to 16

Silk: Yellow

Tail: Red Game Cock Fibres

Rib: Fine Gold Wire

Body: Wide Flat Gold Tinsel

Body Hackle: Red Game Cock Tied Palmer Fashion

Throat Hackle: Red Game Cock - two for dry pattern

Wings: Starling Wing Quill or Grey Duck Wing Quill for larger size

 

 Method:

  1. Start by take the tying silk down the hook and tie in several fibres from a red game cock hackle for the tail.
  2. Tie in a length of fine gold wire followed by the wide flat gold tinsel, take the tying silk and produce a tapered body form finishing at the eye.
  3. Wind the wide flat gold tinsel ¾ of the way up the body, tie in and trim waste.
  4. Take the body hackle and remove the downy fibres before tying in where the wide flat gold tinsel finished, then wind palmer fashion to the tail.
  5. Take the fine gold wire and secure the body hackle in place and tie in as above, trim waste of both hackle and wire.
  6. Another red game cock hackle treated the same as above is secured and three turns taken, then secured and the waste trimmed.
  7. The wings are then formed, secured and trimmed. Whip finish, form a neat head and varnish.
